Amazon.com (Audible Audio ... is one of my favorite books. here, norah lofts enters the macabre and she does it in such masterly and believable way. i enjoyed her details of the time, the riveting personalities she created, and the bone numbing weight of ever increasing doom. i have read and reread this book over a 40 year span. Gad s Hall by Norah Lofts sounds like it should be even more chilling, but it wasn t. The beginning was promising and the second part was what it should be, but the majority of the first part (and the book) was the overly detailed backstory for the house with no haunting whatsoever. (Gad s Hall, #2) by Norah Lofts Makes more sense as a historical novel than a ghost story. This MUST have been meant to be part of a single Gad s Hall book, because otherwise the structure is too weird the spooky events happened in the previous book, and the modern family who are affected by the haunting only pop up right at the end of the book (having only appeared at the start of the last one).
